Snaefell Mountain Railway
The Snaefell Mountain Railway -
Opened in 1895 and operating on electric power, the SMR climbs 5 miles
from Laxey to the summit of Snaefell, at 2,036ft the highest point on the
island. Built to 3ft 6in gauge it has an extra rail from Bungalow to the
summit to allow operation of locomotives from the steam railway on special
occasions.
Seen on a rather damp day
at the Laxey interchange, Car No 1 was built in 1895.
