Starting the September pictures with a set taken yesterday afternoon when dog walking with Star in Archallagan Plantation.  In my opinion, this plantation is the best for walking, covering quite a large area with several wide open 'rides', lots of other paths both wide and narrow and a lot of variation in habitats.

'Two wheels in Laxey'
Some aerial photography of the two large waterwheels in the village, the 'Lady Evelyn', initially installed at the Snaefell Mine from 1865 to 1910 before being sold to a Cornish company, returning to the island in the 2000s with an official opening in 2006.  The second wheel pictured is the more famous 'Lady Isabella', constructed in 1854 to operate pumps for the Great Laxey Mine.  DJI Mini 2 4/9/22

Snowdonia from the Isle of Man.
The mountains of Snowdonia in North Wales are around 70 to 80 miles away from where I live and normally hidden, but on very clear days appear on the horizon to the south. These three pictures were taken on Sunday afternoon from home and cropped into the 'letterbox' format.  Panasonic TZ200 4/9/22

I saw this dramatic sunset sky yesterday evening as we were cooking and rushed upstairs to photograph it out of the Velux roof window.  My TZ200 has a rather annoying habit of switching itself into 7 shot AEB 'burst mode' and the first picture is an HDR combination of those shots.  The second is a single shot.

Yesterday afternoon we were sitting in our back garden enjoying the last of the day's warm sunshine when the sky started to get darker to the south and I said 'I think it might rain soon'.  Checking on the weather radar it agreed that the rain would indeed be here within fifteen minutes, so we packed up and went inside.  As the skies darkened I headed upstairs and was greeted by these amazing skies.  Not long after I took the pictures at around 18:00 we had torrential rain for a while.  However, by 19:30 the skies had cleared and I took the final picture.   Panasonic TZ200 6/9/22

I've just revised the 'Cameras Used' section of the website to include a couple of new devices used.
You can click the drones picture below if you want to have a look at what I've been using since the site started in 1998

Yesterday we went for lunch as The Sound Cafe and I planned to carry out some aerial photography afterwards.  Although it was bright and sunny when we arrived, by the time we had finished lunch and it was time to fly it had clouded over and become rather dull, although some interesting clouds added drama to some of the shots.  Most of these are multiple image 'HDR' pictures, just to try and balance out the contrast between dark land areas and the brighter areas of the sky.

Not a planned photoshoot, but we had a technical problem with the car approaching Bungalow, so I stopped there to check what the problem was.  I was unable to trace it so had to call for roadside help from Manx Automobile Assistance and took these while we were waiting fro them to arrive and the technician was checking the car.  Fortunately he was able to locate a hidden turbocharger hose that had worked loose and fix it.

Just over a week ago I was honoured to be invited to attend the unveiling ceremony by H.E the Lieutenant Governor, Sir John Lorimer and Commodore Philip Waterhouse ADC RN, of two commemorative plaques to H.M.S. Urley, produced by Castletown Heritage.  The construction of H.M.S. Urley in 1943 totally transformed the area, producing what we now know as the Isle fo Man Airport, plus three large accommodation areas, two in Castletown and one in Ballasalla.  The plaques are located at the former entrance to the Castletown Camp at Janet's Corner, mounted on stone pillars that formed the entrance to the camp.  On the unveiling day the weather was rather unkind with heavy rain, so I decided to re-visit when conditions were better and also take some pictures of a few of the surviving buildings.  I've added a some aerial shots that I took in 2020 when the airport was closed for extended periods.

Yesterday morning the weather looked suitable for a bit of aerial photography, so I set off for a site that I hadn't looked at from the air since 2016, Cashtal-yn-Ard, in Maughold.  From the excellent 'Archaeological Sites of the Isle of Man', it is a Neolithic chambered long cairn, a burial site dating back to around 3000 BC. The chambers would have originally been covered with an earth mound, but this is now all gone, just leaving the standing stones.

Having completed my flying at Cashtal-yn-Ard, I headed on to another location, flying from the lower slopes of Maughold Head for some photography of the village, church and surrounding area.

These pictures were taken on Douglas promenade yesterday afternoon, where there was an exhibition of classic cars associated with the Isle of Man Festival of Motoring.  Just taken with my phone camera as we were unaware of it until we arrived in town for some shopping!  I think we were a bit late to see some of the cars as quite a few of them were leaving while we were walking along.  I'm no car expert so I've not tried to identify individual vehicles.

We had noticed whilst viewing the classic cars on the promenade that the air was very clear, with the Cumbrian Mountains of the English Lake District clearly visible from there.  In the early evening I saw that the mountains of Snowdonia in North Wales were also standing out well and shot these pictures.

Yesterday afternoon we had a quick dash around trying to see some more of the decorated dolphins before they are removed for auction.  Here are a few of the ones we visited that we particularly liked.  Panasonic TZ200 18/9/22

On the 20th we headed off for Lanzarote island in the Canaries, not returning until towards the end of October.  Here are just a few pictures taken on the journey and the first few days in Lanzarote, when the weather was a little unexpected!  Panasonic TZ60, TZ200 & Samsung Galaxy A71
